The Season Of Giving

December The Season Of Giving

For those of us who are believers it all began when three wise men traveled a great distance to bestow upon the baby Jesus three special gifts;

 Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.

Three Wisemen

The significance of these gifts may have lost their meaning through the years, but the gift of Gold signified kingship, Frankincense ( perfume) represented spirituality and Myrrh ( oil) was a principal ingredient in the holy anointing foretelling the passing of Christ.

 Based on the magnificence of this story your act of giving should also hold special significance to you and the recipient.   Sure, most people, especially children, expect traditional gifts at this time of year but what if this year you gifted your loved ones with at least one VERY SPECIAL present.  Think about what makes that person unique and gift something that accentuates that.   If your loved one is interested in technology, enroll them in a tech course.  If someone’s goal is better health in the new year, enroll them in a gym membership.

There are many ways of giving; presents is only a physical expression of it.  You can also give of yourself.

-Devote time to those special to you.  Provide them with a commitment of your time and attention. Spend the day with them and enjoy each other’s company.

 -Give to those most in need.  Whether it's a charitable donation or time spent volunteering, giving to those who are less fortunate than yourself shows them someone cares. Giving promotes cooperation, social connection and it makes you feel good!

 So whether you buy gifts, volunteer, or donate to a charity, try and make the “Giving Season” more than just a year-end activity.  Chances are if you do you’ll find yourself benefiting from a big dose of happiness in the process.
